(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, October 22, 2013 ) Los Angeles, CA -- NEW H.P. Lovecraft inspired movie “Rise of the Nightkind” is being produced by Hollywood veterans Race Owen and Christian Jean. A savvy nine minute video anchors the effort, introducing the public to the fascinating and eldritch world of “Weird Fiction.”
“Rise of the Nightkind” will appeal to fans of supernatural horror and its iconic stories, ranging from the works of H.P. Lovecraft (“The Call of Cthulhu”) and Stephen King (“The Shining”) to the films of Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”). Jean, who wrote the screenplay, also cites weird fiction authors Algernon Blackwood (“The Willows”) and Arthur Machen (“The Great God Pan”) as major influences.
Jean and Owen have tapped celebrated actor Ed Marinaro (“Hill Street Blues,” “Sisters” and “Blue Mountain State”) to play a leading role in the movie, and the film’s concept art is being created by A-List creature designer Anthony Francisco (“Spiderman,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”).
An innovative crowdfunding approach is being implemented via IndieGoGo to raise the production capital for the short showcase film. http://bit.ly/TheNightkind
Perks for financial backers include collectible items like directors chairs and scripts, opportunities to engage directly with Owen and Jean during production of the movie and original, one-of-a-kind artwork created by Francisco exclusively for backers.
Plot Summary
“Rise of the Nightkind” tells the story of Bradley and Brooklyn, a young couple that travels to a remote mountain village in search of Bradley's estranged father. For some time, Bradley's dad has been sending mysterious letters that describe supernatural activity in the mountains. Are the stories true, or is Bradley's father in need of psychiatric help? Along the way, Bradley and Brooklyn come face to face with hostile mountain folk who’ve lost their free will and some of their body parts, as well as a horrifying, trans-dimensional being called "The Nightkind."
